Andre Dalwin

Hi, I’m Andre. I like cameras, moving images, and making things.

Before college, I was pretty sure I was going to study film production. I spent a lot of time messing around with cameras, drones, gimbals, and whatever software I could get my hands on: After Effects, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, even Unreal Engine. Most of it was just me trying things, learning composition, and figuring out why some images felt better than others.

During the pandemic, I applied to UBC’s BFA Film Production program. I didn’t get in. I ended up taking my second choice instead: computer science at Ateneo de Manila University. That changed what I studied, but it didn’t really change what I liked making.

In college, I kept finding my way back behind a camera. I photographed live performances and candid moments, made motion graphics, shot and edited event videos, directed a short film about the Jubilee Center, and eventually helped lead OrSem: Mithi. Sometimes I was shaping the whole project. Other times I was just waiting for a good moment to happen in front of me.

I still don’t really know what to call myself, and I’m okay with that. I probably make more videos than photographs, but I enjoy both. I like composing a frame, catching people in the middle of their day, and watching sunlight and shadows move through a landscape.

Sundae is where the path I studied and the one I originally wanted finally crossed. I wanted the camera in my pocket to make photographs closer to how I saw them, so I started building one of my own.

Outside of all that, I like watching movies, listening to music, playing video games, obsessing over cameras, and eating Japanese food.
